If you are just starting out in the world of internet marketing you must remain alert and focused at all times. Listed are 10 unspoken rules you should review and use to your advantage.

1. The first advantage of having a home based business is that you are open rain or shine and 24/7. You are able to work when you want for as long as you want. When you are able to get your business fine-tuned you can utilize software that will set your business on auto-pilot. This will afford you that coveted time to spend with your family and enjoy various leisure activities as well. There is no such thing as a “Get-Rich-Quick” scheme. It takes time, dedication and commitment to begin building an online business. If you build your business correctly, you will be rewarded with residual income that can last for years. Creating a firm foundation is key to a successful business whether it’s online or offline.

2. The goal for most people is have a full-time online business that will replace, and hopefully exceed, your current job. To be able to create a regular income will take a little time, so be patient and stay with your boss until you feel secure about your home-based business. Step into the internet marketing arena and put your toe in a little bit of everything. Learn to build a website (very easy), open your mind to HTML, learn how to use scripts and create a few images of your own. These are are little skills that will make you more marketable and save you money. If you can remain focused enough to take on some of these skills that are needed for your success, you will be a cut above the rest of those who give up much too soon.

3. NEVER…get involved in ‘get paid to read email’ sites–they are scams and you won’t earn a penny. They won’t even answer your emails of complaint! MLM too, or in fact any website telling you that your money will be doubled or tripled in a matter of days, or you will become rich over night, are scams. Avoid them!! It’s not difficult to find bona fide marketers on the Internet. Look for offline contact points. An address or telephone number is a good sign they are genuine. Another good test is to send them an email before you sign up to see how efficiently they reply. Avoid the ‘Get-Rich-Quick’ schemes–they don’t work!

4. If I had a “guarded secret” of how to make thousands of dollars per day on the internet, would I tell you? The answer is a resounding “no”. The internet does not have secrets, it does have information though that you either know about or don’t know about. So when you see the advertisements about “earning $75K monthly on auto-pilot”, please don’t click any further. You and I both know when something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Stay safe on the internet and steer clear of the ridiculous hype.

5. I wish I could find a internet millionaire who would really take me by the hand and show me step-by-step how his ebook earned him a six-figure income. Grow up! How many times have we (I said we) clicked the “buy now” button only to be disappointed with an ebook that couldn’t make a $1K much less $1 Million. I hope that we’ve all learned by now that an internet business takes some work to set up. Nothing is hard unless you make it hard. Often we mistake hard for different.

6. Images of money, pictures of yachts and six-figure bank account balances are alive and well on the internet. I just have to wonder if any of them are true, especially since I know how easy it is to create those screenshots. These images can make you lose your focus very easily. Testimonials are another item in question, anyone can write them. Not everyone online is unscrupulous, but just be wary because some people are just not honest. Don’t be taken, be careful.

7. Successful full-time internet marketers are not all influenced by the “Fast Buck”. Many of them have full-time jobs and build their businesses slowly and steadily. They are ready to work as long and as hard as is necessary to accomplish whatever needs to be done to make the business work. You cannot give up when the going gets tough in business. There will always be storms and down times and you must have the strength to make it through.

8. If you want to grow a business it’s time to get organized! Take things out of your schedule that are taking your time away from finding out what you want to do. By making room for the new you, you will create a vacuum that the new you will rush in to fill and you will be on your way to the top.” Make sure you can find things at the drop of a hat, and remember to replace them when you’re through. You should know every aspect of what is happening in your business at all times. It means arranging your time and workload to meet your goals. Yes, goals. A very important part of being organized.

9. Stick to the basic etiquette of Internet Marketing. Don’t be tempted to send out high volume unsolicited email (spam). It won’t be worth the hassle, believe me! Read the Terms and Conditions section when you join a program and if you decide to sign up, then adhere to those terms. You will make useful contacts during your Internet campaigns. Try not to ’step on toes’ and remain courteous and helpful.

10. Do not leave any large sums of money in any online marketing or promotional website. You should know that the majority of websites have a strict policy on spamming. If you are ever accused of spamming (sending unsolicited emails) you could have your account closed by the website owner and lose your funds as well.

Although this seems like a set of rules for surfing the web, it is more like a guideline for you to use while active on the internet. I hope these 10 tips will serve to make your internet marketing experience enjoyable, prosperous and profitable!
